Invest in the Future of Farming
Climate change is the defining challenge for Mediterranean agriculture. Rising temperatures, unpredictable rainfall, and soil degradation are already changing which crops are viable in Southern Europe. Botana AI is the intelligence layer that helps a farmer decide what to plant next.
Traction
Botana AI is live and paid subscriptions opened in August 2026. New farms are admitted in small weekly groups. 30+ pilot farmers, 100+ fields analyzed, 244+ crop varieties available. INSEAD Venture Competition Patrick Turner Prize winners and >>venture>> Social & Environmental Impact Prize winners (2026).
What Botana AI Owns
A field-level crop database built and reviewed with practising agronomists, with variety-level recommendations for Sicily rather than generic crop entries. Every data point carries its provenance, from FAO-56 and EcoCrop references through Italian institutional sources to agronomist review.
Recommendations are priced against Sicilian farmgate benchmarks rather than national averages, and the engine models labour, fixed costs, water availability and local demand rather than agronomic fit alone.
Ceres, the farmer-facing assistant, runs on Apertus, a Swiss open-weight model hosted on European infrastructure, so farm data stays inside EU and Swiss jurisdiction.
Team
Founded by Hugo Bouet (INSEAD, ex-Google) and Estrella Zuniga (HEC Paris, ex-AXA Climate). Supported by PhD agronomists and Bain & Co advisors.
